Annual Award

Works: Indigenous Face Photography: Scott Spiker (USA)

"August 2000, I hope to photograph some environmental portraits to enrich my photography. I naturally thought of going to Native American tribes. After some twists and turns, I contacted the Blackfeet tribe in Montana. John Ground of the Blackfoot family protected area. He had a lot of beautiful headdresses for dancing at the ceremony, one of which had a mask made of metal beads, which attracted me deeply. We met at a settlement near the edge of the reserve. Sitting in the tent awaiting the onset of the sunset, there was an ominous sign of the sky, the storm was drawing near, and I was even ready to arrange another time.Fortunately, in the last few minutes, the distant horizon gathered The clouds suddenly separated and the sun shined through the cracks for about 10 minutes. I quickly seized this wonderful opportunity to take this picture.”

Mountain Environment Award

Works: Environmental Transitions in the Himalayas: Jack Ives (Canada)

“In the past few decades, indigenous peoples in the valleys of Central Nepal have been accused by Western aid agencies. In their eyes, it is these 'ignorants' living in the natural economic environment that accelerate the massive deforestation of farmers. Water and soil erosion has led to landslides and flooding in the lower reaches of the Ganges, India and Bangladesh. Nowadays, the environment here has turned upside down, even as a model for soil conservation projects. For the awakening of the environmental awareness of the local communities, UNESCO has been working for years to encourage mountain farmers to participate personally in the protection of their homeland environment and play an increasingly important role.”

Mountain Biology Award

Works: Wreaths Wrapped by Flowers: Jaime Trento (Canada)

“At the end of April 2001, I traveled to Ganafia and hoped to capture the poppies in the desert in northeastern Los Angeles, California. Since the open season of wildflowers changes every year, capturing accurate time becomes the key. When I came to the poppy-growing area, I was surprised to find that there was not a single flower around, but after consultation with the locals, I finally found the legendary valley, thanks to the dampness of the past. In the winter, I could see such spectacular scenery, and within a few square miles, orange-colored tapestry covered the earth and stretched to the far west of the mountain. The car I was renting was stuck in the dry river bed sand. I was fortunate enough to find this picture right in the middle of the day when I was alone and surrounded, and I was fortunate to find this picture: In the direct sunlight, an already fully weathered animal relic was lying quietly in the natural tomb of the wild poppy.

Mountain Landscape Award

Works: Sleeping Beauty's Sunset Photographs: Larry Anderson (USA)

“In the port of Anchorage in Alaska, you can clearly see Mount Susitna at 4,396 feet above sea level. In the local legend, Susitna is a sleeping princess waiting for her warrior to return from the battlefield. Turned into a mountain stone, people call this mountain a 'Sleeping Beauty' from then on. On the evening of the shooting of this photo, the Aurora came to Anchorage Harbor, and the people of the city had the good fortune to observe this strange sight. The portrayal of the artificial light of Anchorage itself is far stronger than that of the Northern Lights, but occasionally it is possible to see some rare powerful aurora - just like that special evening. This photo was taken two hours after sunset, when the sky was Already black, fortunately, the film recorded the last glimmer of sunset, leaving a dramatic moment."
