British scientists develop gas barrier plastic film

Researchers at the Department of Materials at Oxford University in the UK have developed a gas barrier film that is currently in the verification phase. This film combines organic and inorganic compounds and is safe for food packaging.

This high barrier technology is suitable for stand-up pouches for food packaging, and researchers are working hard to prove that this film does not transfer toxic monomers to the food. This material contains a number of polymers and monomers that absorb large amounts of radiant energy to form macromolecular chains, so toxic substances do not migrate into foods.

This film combines several layers of different types of films and therefore has a very strong barrier to oxygen and moisture. This material can be used for packaging of dry goods, baked goods, fresh salads, and cheese. In addition, there are potential applications in vacuum insulation films and organic light emitting diodes.
