2. Book back materials.
(1) Plug cloth. Length: The square back book core is equal to the book back width error of ±1.5 mm; the round back book core is equal to the book back arc length. The error is 1.5mm to 2.0mm.
(2) gauze. The length should be 15 to 25mm shorter than the length of the book block. The width should be 40-50mm wider than the circle back or square back.
(3) Book back paper. The length should be 4 to 6mm shorter than the length of the book block. The width should be the same as the back width of the square backing book or the arc length of the round backing book block.
(4) Ribbons. It is the same length as the diagonal of the book block.
3 ring liner specifications calculations. The length of the collar is equal to the length of the book block, and its width is 2 times the width of the book block.
4. Calculation of seal specifications. The length of the guard should be the same as the length of the bookcase board. The width of the guard is 2 times the sum of the width of the bookcase cardboard and the width of the mouth and the width of the middle diameter. The mouth width is generally 35 ~ 50mm.

Third, the book shell production process
1. Cutting of the cover board. China's production of hardcover books, pictures and other cover board cardboard flat sheet, the size of 1350mm × 920mm. When cutting cardboard, first cut away about 10mm of paperboard edge from four sides, and then calculate the size of the bookcase paperboard according to the size of the open book, according to the most economical arrangement scheme, and try to make the books back along the cardboard fiber as much as possible. The vertical lines are cut. For example, the cutting plan for cardboard used in the most popular 32 publications is shown in Figure 6-16. The shaded part in the figure is the cropped part. The horizontal and vertical lines in the figure are the cutting lines. The direction shown by the arrow is the vertical pattern of the cardboard fiber.
At present, in addition to the single-sided cutter, the cutter board also uses a round knife type cutter that is used in conjunction with a paperboard flattening dryer, as shown in Fig. 6-17.

2. Book shell production process. According to the different thicknesses of the booklet and the thickness of the book block, the process of bonding the cut cardboard, the cover armor material, and the middle diameter according to a certain specification is called a book case. The equipment used is called a paste sealer. The paste sealer can be used to make a full-face bookcase, as well as a face bookcase.
The paste sealer is mainly composed of a gluing mechanism, a cover, a cardboard, a medium-diameter paper conveying mechanism, a wrapping, a wrap angle mechanism, a compaction and a conveying mechanism and the like. Completed all work from the input to the hardcover bookcase production.
At present, there are two types of paste sealers produced in China, namely CM2 type and ZF101 type, which can be pasted with 64 to 8 hardcover covers. Production efficiency is 500 to 600/h. Figure 6-18 shows the working process of the entire cover material paste sealer.

After the book shell is manufactured, it must be dried to eliminate the moisture in the adhesive when the paste is sealed, so as to ensure the normal operation of the next process. Drying methods are natural drying and artificial drying. Natural drying time is longer, usually more than one day. Artificial drying time is short, you can use the air circulation to dry, or use infrared drying, high frequency drying and so on. Most of the printing plants in China use natural drying methods.
Make a good book shell also need to be decorated to make it more beautiful. The decoration and processing of the hardcover bookcase is based on the requirements of the original design. The characters and patterns are printed on the bookcase. According to the surface material used when the book is printed, hot stamping, embossing or printing can be used. Specific embossed aluminum stamping and embossed decorative processing methods and processes will be described in the fifteenth and sixteenth chapters of the second book. (to be continued)
