Kyushu Space Analysis How to Maintain Automatic Weather Station

Automatic weather stations are essential tools for monitoring various meteorological parameters such as air temperature, humidity, wind speed, and wind direction. Despite being highly automated systems, they typically require minimal maintenance under normal operating conditions. However, to ensure the accuracy and longevity of the sensors, regular and proper maintenance is crucial.

One important component is the humidity sensor, which should be cleaned regularly using a soft brush to remove dust. If the filter paper becomes excessively dirty, it is advisable to replace it. During routine maintenance, avoid exposing the sensor directly to sunlight or washing it with water, as this can damage its sensitive components.

The atmospheric pressure sensor also requires attention. It is important to check the desiccant inside the static air hole; if the desiccant changes color from blue to another shade, it should be replaced immediately. Additionally, make sure that the static air hole is free from any debris that could interfere with the sensor’s readings.

In addition to these specific components, it's recommended to perform periodic inspections of the entire station, including checking cables for wear, ensuring all connections are secure, and verifying that the power supply is stable. Keeping the surrounding area clean and free from obstructions helps maintain the overall performance of the weather station. By following these maintenance practices, you can extend the lifespan of your automatic weather station and ensure reliable data collection over time.
