A childhood that can't go back! Relive our past time with our children as parents!

**Editor's Note** In the memories of our childhood, how do we share them with our kids? Renting books and dishes, sending letters to distant pen pals, practicing calligraphy, and even feeling sad about missing a favorite TV show—these are all things that today’s children may never experience. As summer comes to an end, our parents are revisiting those old times, showing the kids that we adults also had a childhood! Back in the day, we used to rent VHS tapes from local video stores. Today’s kids can just order what they want to watch through IPTV. We didn’t wear helmets when we rode bikes, but now kids are treated like athletes, wearing helmets and being taught not to take any risky moves on their bicycles. We used to worry about missing our favorite TV shows, but now even if kids don’t know the name of a festival, they can stream it on Internet TV. Back then, we practiced hard on calligraphy, but nowadays, many kids start typing on keyboards before they even learn to write properly. We used to record love songs for someone special, while today’s kids just need to swipe their fingers to create a playlist. We used to look up information in encyclopedias for reports, but now Wikipedia is the go-to source, making those bulky books less essential. We used typewriters and practiced our handwriting, but typing on a keyboard is now the norm. We used rotary phones to dial numbers, but today, who even knows what a non-touchscreen phone looks like? We traveled with paper maps, but now most kids have never seen one. Google Maps and GPS have made them almost obsolete. We used to drink water from public fountains, but now we’re warned about harmful substances like lead and BPA. We used answer sheets and worried about scoring high, but now more schools are moving to computer-based testing. We played marbles as kids, but this game has nearly disappeared. We took photos with film cameras, but many kids today might not even know what photo printing is. We used to call friends on landlines, but now kids prefer WeChat to send messages and photos instead of making calls. We used to run around in groups, but now, kids aren’t allowed to leave their parents’ sight. We wrote letters to pen pals, licking stamps and waiting for the next one. But today’s kids might not even understand why anyone would send a letter. This is the world we grew up in, and it’s very different from the one our kids are living in now. It’s fascinating to see how much has changed—and how much we’ve lost along the way. *Source: Women’s Day*
