Chinese Academy of Sciences developed super-hydrophobic plastic film

Recently, Jiang Lei, a key laboratory of the Institute of Chemical Solidification, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made new progress in the field of functional nano-interface materials. The research group used inexpensive polystyrene as raw material and adopted a simple electrospinning technology to prepare a super-hydrophobic film with a novel structure, marking another step in the low-cost and large-scale preparation of functional interface materials with special wettability. An important step has been taken.

Electrospinning is an effective method for preparing fibers or particles on the micrometer to nanometer scale. Due to its simple operation and wide application, electrospinning has received much attention in recent years. Jiang Lei group prepared a superhydrophobic film with porous microsphere and nanofiber composite structure by electrospinning. The porous microspheres play a major role in the superhydrophobicity of the film, while the nanofibers interweave into a three-dimensional network framework, which “bundles” the porous microspheres and enhances the stability of the film.
