Showcasing a seamless blend of historical architecture with modern-day lifestyle, Frank Ponterio’s design of the Conservatory adds comfort and luxury to this expansive space.

Ponterio’s design honors the historical architecture of Benjamin Marshall by integrating existing elements with thoughtfully curated updates, including millwork, materials, and furnishings that emphasize meticulous attention to detail. Ponterio drew inspiration from the natural surroundings and aimed to harmonize the interior and exterior, creating a room that embodies the essence of casual elegance .

FOUR SEASONS RESIDENCE

Conceived as an urban residence for a close friend, Frank Ponterio ensured every element in the home reflected the owner’s eclectic tastes and interests. Striking artwork takes pride of place throughout, featuring bold limited-edition prints of David Bowie by acclaimed photographer Markus Klinko and modern abstracts by local artist Lonney White.

Textured and graphic wallpaper adds visual depth to the home, with hand-painted “Ink Blots” paper by Porto Teleo standing out in the guest room. Furnishings with unexpected forms and details—characteristic of this standout downtown Chicago residence—offer the owner easy access to the city’s finest dining and entertainment venues.

For this project, Ponterio’s goal was to respect the property’s historical significance while embracing a contemporary aesthetic that honored its modern legacy. Frank Ponterio aimed to update the rooms without compromising their foundational structure. To achieve this, he introduced custom furnishings and millwork that added further architectural interest. A warm color palette, rich textures, vibrant artwork, and accessories were used to enhance the openness of the home, creating spaces that exuded sophistication and comfort . Moreover, the application of fabric on walls and doors not only softened the home’s contemporary lines but also improved acoustics.
