Functional and aesthetically pleasing shrink film

In recent years, high-shrinkage films have largely entered the flexible packaging market. Some applications include: shrink sleeves, full seal labels, bottle caps (cap closures), security tapes, and bundled packaging. High-shrinkage films were originally mainly used for high-end packaging (wine and cosmetics), and have now become extremely popular among distributors and consumers. Nowadays, high-shrinkage films are often used for the promotion of new products, including beverages, dairy products, powdered foods, and dry snacks.
Shrink labels are one of the main areas of application for high-shrinkage films. Industry experts agree that this kind of packaging concept will have a great impact on the market, including the convenience food and beverage market. Other markets also include medicines, baby foods, air fresheners, bathroom chemicals, lawn garden supplies, special motor oils and lubricants. At the same time, it is also possible to replace soft bag packaging and cardboard products.
Most industry analysts believe that the demand for shrink labels will increase at an annual rate of about 20% over the next five years.
High shrinkage label types High shrink sleeve labels are made of different materials including styrenics (PS), copolyesters (PETG) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
High shrinkage allows the label to have a glove-like feel on the shaped bottle. High shrinkage labels provide 50% to 80% shrinkage, depending on the polymer used and the manufacturing process.
* PETG label provides 80% final shrinkage, higher than OPS (70%) and PVC (60%). Compared with other materials, PETG also shows a flatter shrinkage curve and a lower initial shrinkage temperature, which means that the shrinkage performance is more predictable and the paste is faster.
* OPS tags have fairly balanced shrinkage characteristics and the overall cost is about 40% lower than PETG. Compared to other types, OPS labels are softer, less prone to curl, but difficult to print. Moreover, the stiffness is easily lost in wet conditions. The main components of the OPS package label are styrene butadiene copolymers (SBC), such as K resin, and are mixed with PS and specialty additives.
* The shrinkage rate of PVC shrink labels is about 60%, and the shrinkage force is small. To facilitate recycling, Japanese and European packaging companies have begun to use OPS in large quantities, and US packaging companies have recently begun to use it in large quantities. It is very difficult to sort PVC labels from PET bottles, mainly due to the fact that the specific gravity of the resins is similar, which makes the widely used flotation method ineffective.
In recent years, the application of BOPP labels has also increased. The range of shrinkage is between 5% and 22% in the machine longitudinal direction. It is mainly used for roll-to-roll shrink labels with a regular outer packaging and bottle shape.
The BOPP label uses a lower density material, one less than the set label. Therefore, the BOPP tag can be used as a substitute for high-cost applications that do not require too much shrinkage.
Advantages of high-shrinkage labels High-shrinkage labels provide 360-degree coverage, excellent graphics quality, and are generally printed on 10-color rotary gravure. This type of label uses color, icon, and scanned barcodes, nutrition labels, ingredient descriptions, company websites, and other print information packaging containers.
High-shrinkage labels are suitable for irregular shapes and various geometric shapes. After shrinking, they can fit seamlessly with special-shaped packaging. With this type of label, a variety of new packaging designs, including ergonomic forms, can be provided, providing easy-to-grab handles. At the same time, it can also increase the rigidity of packaging (such as soft bag packaging) from the impact of the distribution process.
Fully-encapsulated, high-shrink labels combine the relevant components (caps, bottles, etc.) to provide anti-theft protection. At the same time, the easy-open function can also be designed. With a particular porous technology, the consumer can tear the label at various points of the container from top to bottom.
A full-enclosed print sleeve can also be used as a shield to prevent shoppers from seeing dim contents (condiments, etc.). When a fluorescent lamp can damage the nutritional value of a UV-sensitive composition, the opaque full envelope acts as an ultraviolet barrier that blocks the black middle layer. If the shopper is expected to see the contents during the sale, the full-enclosed print sleeve can be equipped with a full-transparent window, providing a beautiful graphic appearance and inspiring the shopper's shopping impulse.
Fully-encapsulated shrink labels maximize transparency issues. Increasing the amount of recycled resin in premium consumer product packaging can further reduce costs. At the same time, PP material may be used in the container structural layer instead of the higher cost PET material.
Shrinking the outer packaging is also conducive to multiple promotions and merchandising.
Many development efforts are underway to improve the performance of high-shrinkage labels to provide them with UV-blocking properties. Other projects on the market are also under development, with the aim of adding gas or moisture barriers, built-in anti-theft (safety holograms) and traceability functions to the envelope rather than the container.
Thin film production technology High shrinkage film is produced from horizontal orientation lines, and the transverse stretching ratio varies depending on shrinkage requirements and the materials used (PETG, PS, and PVC). The high shrink film thickness is between 30 and 70 acids, with a typical thickness of 40 and 50 acids.
After being made, the label is placed over the container and pre-contracted with the container through a high temperature tunnel.
DMT film line equipment can be stretched through TDO (lateral orientation) for the production of high shrink film. The coil is either outsourced or produced on its own off-line casting line and then uncoiled at the TDO entrance to produce an oriented film.
At the same time, DMT has successfully designed a more advanced device that is fully integrated into the biaxial lines, equipped with the necessary design features to produce a wide range of high shrinkage films. The production line consists of the following parts:
* Using advanced extrusion technology, PETG, PS and other materials can be processed in the same biaxial production line;
* Longitudinal and transverse orientation machines capable of producing high shrinkage and low shrinkage films for the packaging industry, including shrink sleeves, full seal labels, cap closures, security tapes and bundled packages;
* Configure flexible components such as bridges and multiple winding and unwinding devices to selectively produce cast sheets, single-orientation films, or bi-axial films.
In recent years, in addition to being used as a label, shrink films have also been used in many packaging applications because they can protect objects from shocks and can also be printed in exquisite packaging to show the company's image. The LSK and SK series produced by SMI of Italy can produce a variety of packages and can operate in single lane, double lane and three lanes. The package forming process is completed in stages, but all units are operated in synchrony to ensure uniform continuous operation. The system automatically delivers the product to the packaging unit and dispenses according to the selected packaging mode. When using a pallet or pallet, the blank picker located at the lower part of the mechanical feed port picks up the cardboard blank from the blank bin and slides along the blank inclined plane until the formed packaging bag is placed thereon. When the bag and the blank pass the machine, the special mechanical device folds the front cover, the rear cover, and the side cover of the blank to form a tray. A special nozzle sprays a layer of hot melt adhesive to seal the package. Afterwards, the entire package is moved to a film overpack unit where the film is wrapped around the package and a lap layer is formed at the bottom to form a shrink wrap. LSK and SK series bags are molded by electronic dispensing devices and printing film centering systems.
At present, more and more packaging companies use printed film instead of traditional transparent film, because the printed film can improve the appearance of the elegant, easy to advertise the product, so that the brand in the consumer's mind to form a deep impression.
Both models are equipped with a Tlespack system that stacks stacked drinks and food cans to create a three-dimensional package without the need for placing a backing plate or tray between layers. The Easy Open device forms a series of micro-holes in the film, forming a tear ear handle. Simply pulling this tear ear handle allows the quick and easy opening of the shrink film bag. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to use a tool or a cutter.
Great Lakes also introduced a TS37 continuous operation model that can be molded in 80 packages per minute, and the film inverter can be adjusted without using multiple forming heads.
The TS37 model can be packaged with unlimited length products. The package height can be quickly adjusted to a height of 6 inches (with 8 inches opening). The machine is equipped with a crankshaft adjustable height trimming sealing device and a turntable adjustable bag length, so the bag length can be changed during operation without changing the screw groove interval.
The TS37 model adopts a unique side sealing process, and the packaging graphics will not be deformed, making it particularly suitable for packaging paper products such as handicrafts, CDs and low-height stacking tissues, greeting cards and the like. High product can choose longitudinal heat knife. The machine forms a neat trim seal near the product, which enhances the appearance of the product.
The machine uses a single winding (cost less than two fold) polyolefin, PVC or polyethylene shrink film. The side sealer welds the film and then cuts it with a hot wire to extend the hot press time. In this way, a stronger, more elegant trim seal can be formed.
The TS37 machine is equipped with a cross-sealing system, which uses hot knife sealing and cutting, and accurate temperature control to ensure accurate temperature settings. The horizontal wind scrap material discharge system adopts an independent drive, which is easy to replace and can compact multi-barrier films.
The machine is equipped with a sliding film holder for film roll loading, eliminating the need for floating rollers and pinch rollers, and thus shortening the film replacement time. The film holder is located under the film forming table, so it also saves space requirements.
During film shrinkage, the thermal control of the tunnel must be accurate to produce a uniform and consistent shrink film. Great Lakes is equipped with a Vision Shrink tunnel in the packaging machine. It has excellent insulation properties, and is equipped with upper and lower wind speed control and variable speed transmission systems to stably control the shrink chamber temperature.
The unique function of this machine is the convection heating system rather than the circulating heating system. The machine adopts forward temperature control, and the fan blades generate wind speed vortex effect, so a uniform and consistent shrinkage rate can be obtained.
The Vision Series offers a variety of standard features to ensure highly reliable, trouble-free operation. Equipped with unique viewing windows and illuminated shrink chambers, allowing fast quality control. At the same time, double-layer insulation is also used to ensure uniform shrinkage and improve energy efficiency.
