Nongfu Springs "Yan value" global explosion table won first place in international packaging design

[China Packaging Network News] In the recently announced 2015 Dieline International Packaging Design Awards, Nongfu Spring's New Mineral Water, a local Chinese brand, claimed the top spot in the non-alcoholic beverages category. This marks the first time a Chinese company has ever won the grand prize in this prestigious international competition, which has previously been dominated by Western brands. The award, organized by The Dieline, is one of the most respected design competitions globally, focusing on packaging innovation across various sectors including beverages, snacks, and luxury goods. Each year, thousands of entries are submitted, and a panel of renowned packaging designers evaluates them based on creativity, functionality, market potential, and brand alignment. Nongfu Spring’s winning package was praised for its strong visual connection to the ecological environment of Changbai Mountain. The bottle's design features a drop-like shape that evokes the imagery of falling water, symbolizing purity and natural beauty. The packaging effectively communicates the product's quality and unique characteristics, while also standing out as an innovative and inspiring design. According to Zhou Li, a spokesperson for Nongfu Spring, the project took three years to complete, with over 58 design iterations and more than 300 finalized versions. The company worked closely with the design firm "Horse Design," ensuring full control over every detail. Nongfu Spring not only provided creative direction but also shared original illustrations and color suggestions to help the designers capture the essence of Changbai Mountain. Zhou Li emphasized that few companies invest such effort into packaging design, but he believes that packaging is an essential part of the product experience. “If a company doesn’t care about its packaging, how can we believe it cares about quality?” he said. For Nongfu Spring, the packaging is not just a container—it's an extension of the product itself, and must be perfect. The product comes in eight different packaging styles. Four of them feature transparent designs showcasing typical elements of Changbai Mountain, such as snowflakes, sea bream, ferns, and red pine fruits—each representing a unique aspect of the region's nature. These are used for still mineral water. The other four designs are green-themed, featuring animals like Siberian tigers, Chinese mergansers, red deer, and cormorants, and are used for carbonated mineral water. The water source is Moya Spring at the foot of Changbai Mountain, known for its low sodium content (only 4mg/L) and high levels of silicic acid. With a total dissolved solids (TDS) level below 100, it is considered a rare and high-quality mineral spring. Nongfu Spring’s success in the Dieline Awards highlights not only its commitment to design excellence but also its deep connection to the natural environment from which its product originates.
