The Bordeaux Institute of Oenology says that storing wine in small-package glass bottles of 187 ml (1/4 of normal bottle capacity) is the best, better than PVC or PET plastic bottles .
The above studies were conducted mainly for airlines, because this area places more emphasis on the packaging weight of wine.
Here are four groups of wines tested:
· AOC Bordeaux in glass bottles, PVC, and PET; · AOC Bordeaux white wines in glass bottles, PVC, and PET; · AOC Graff white wines in glass bottles and PET; · Glass bottles Comprehensive solutions for the packaging of PVC, PET and PET materials.
Test Methods:
All bottles were filled with uniform wines and samples were taken from the new packaging for testing. After sampling, the bottles were stored for six months under different temperature and light conditions. All bottles were stored upright. Finally, blind comparisons were conducted and the judges consisted of 19 professional wine drinkers.
The tests are scheduled at 11 am, using a glass made by the French Standards Association (AFNOR), at room temperature 19 degrees Celsius.
Test Results:
• CO2 disappeared in AOC Bordeaux stored in PVC and PET bottles, and free SO2 decreased drastically. The color and taste of the wine changed, and all tasters did not like the wine in the above package. However, wines preserved in glass bottles have hardly changed.
• CO2 in AOC Bordeaux White Wines stored in PVC and PET bottles disappears, free SO2 decreases, and alcohol content slightly increases. Within three months, the free SO2 fraction disappeared and the wine changes very clearly. The reviewers did not like this wine.
The wines stored in the glass bottles are unchanged, and the taste and aroma are very stable.
·Graf white wines stored in PVC and PET bottles have low concentrations of CO2, a slight increase in alcohol content, and a rapid decrease in free SO2, almost disappearing in three months. Flavors and aromas are destroyed to some extent, and the taster can smell the difference with the original wine just by smelling it.
The glas stored in the glass bottle changed slightly, but the quality of the wine did not change.
Seeing the above conclusions, there is no doubt that the best bottle for storing wine is still glass bottles.
