On May 3, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision released the first issue of the 2012 Announcement on the Quality Status of Wooden Furniture Products in Beijing's Production Sector. 32 furniture companies were listed on the “black list†of quality.
A total of 261 batches of wooden furniture products produced by 261 companies were sampled, and more than 70% of the unqualified products were bedside tables, involving 23 enterprises. These include the bedside table of Beijing Pingxifu Honglei Furniture Factory, the dining chair of Beijing Jingtai Classical Mahogany Furniture Factory, the dining chair of Beijing Lishunde Hongmu Furniture Co., Ltd., and the push cabinet of Beijing Weilong Weiye Furniture Co., Ltd.
The reporter noticed that among the 32 companies that were on the “black list†of quality, the products that had problems except the dining chair of Beijing Lishunde Hongmu Furniture Co., Ltd. marked the “Lishunde†trademark, the meal of Beijing Taihe Gaosite Furniture Factory. In addition to the “leisure BOSS†trademark, the other 30 companies are “not marked†in the trademark column, and the enterprises without trademarks account for 93.8% of the total number of “black list†enterprises.
There is no trademark for the product, and the company has no reputation. Yu Xiusu, vice president and secretary general of the Beijing Furniture Industry Association, said that there are more than 1,700 furniture manufacturing enterprises in Beijing, and none of the 32 companies listed in the “black list†are members of the association. The reporter found that the furniture brands sold in the mainstream stores in the Beijing market found that these stores could not find these products with quality problems. Most of them are small workshop-style enterprises, which do not rely on mainstream stores for sales. They belong to the “miscellaneous army†with the scale strength and brand influence “double noâ€.
"A company does not even have a product trademark. Of course, it does not pay attention to the quality of the product. If this product enters the consumer's home, there are multiple hidden dangers," an industry source said.
Most of the products are not qualified due to cutting corners.
The results of this spot check showed that in addition to the sapwood content and impact resistance items, the drawer slide strength, cabinet stability, and formaldehyde emission were the three most prominent problems. Among them, more than 60% of the products with unqualified drawer slide strength, nearly 40% of products with unqualified formaldehyde emission, and more than 70% of products with unsatisfactory cabinet stability.
Formaldehyde is harmful to the human body, and long-term residence in a room with excessive formaldehyde emission can cause cancer. According to the national mandatory standard GB 18584-2001 "Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Wood Furniture for Interior Decoration Materials", the amount of formaldehyde released should not exceed 1.5mg/L. The sampling inspection, the bedside cabinets produced by Beijing Pingxifu Honglei Furniture Factory and the push-made cabinets produced by Beijing Huangcun Chuangmeite Furniture Factory exceeded the standard.
