Book publishing is easier with inkjet technology

Inkjet printing technology is often associated with documents like invoices, bills, and direct mail. However, during a recent webinar titled *"Inkjet: Implications for Book Printing Manufacturers and Publishers,"* Barbra Pellow and Jim Hamilton from the Winship Group expanded the conversation to include book printing. They highlighted that book printing now makes up approximately 20% of the inkjet market and is growing at an impressive pace. Trends such as first-mode publishing, just-in-time manufacturing, and on-demand printing are gaining more traction than ever before. In fact, Hamilton pointed out that as electronic communication has risen, the definition of a "book" has evolved to include digital, interactive, and personalized content, which can be delivered through multiple channels. Even though the digital industry is booming, printed books remain a powerful and effective form of communication. A recent Pew Research study found that 70% of adults still prefer reading printed books, while only 4% opt for e-books exclusively. As a result, printed books continue to be a major revenue source for publishers. Both printers and publishers recognize that digital printing offers a more efficient transition from traditional offset printing. With digital presses, the process becomes more streamlined, acting as a virtual document archive where products can be produced instantly within a well-established workflow. And thanks to advancements in inkjet technology, high-quality printing is now more affordable and accessible than ever before. This shift not only improves efficiency but also allows for greater customization and flexibility in meeting market demands.
