Demystifying the top ten pitfalls of graphic design output

Many friends doing graphic design asked me that they used the correct method in the design and production, but they always made mistakes in the end. Some mistakes are hard to find the reason. In fact, the root cause of these problems is still in the production. Since these problems are common, it is difficult for us to encounter them easily, so once an error occurs, it is difficult for us to find the root cause of the problem. It can be summarized into ten major error-prone places, and dedicated to those who are struggling in the front line of design and production and are about to go to the front line.

One, RGB image is not converted to CMYK

Consequences: Most software (FreeHand, Pagemaker, etc.) will not separate the RGB images. If the RGB images are misused, the color separation film or the image will only be displayed on the black version, and the images of other color versions are empty Or there are equivalent grayscale images on the four color versions.

Solution: If the scanner you use supports direct scan CYMK, it is best to be able to scan directly to a four-color file; if you can only get RGB, then you must not forget to convert RGB to CYMK before output.

Tip: It is difficult to see whether it is RGB or CYMK from the file name or file icon. It is too troublesome to open one by one. For the TIFF image, you can make judgments by observing the preview color of the image in typesetting or imposition software: CYMK's TIFF image preview is more vivid and unnatural, and RGB is a more natural color. As for the EPS picture, it is difficult to distinguish from the preview, and you can only check it one by one without worrying.

Second, the font used in FreeHand is Heavy (emphasis), and the font used in PageMaker is Bold (bold)

Consequences: If the Chinese font in FreeHand uses Heavy, most of the time it will be slurred; while the Chinese font in PageMaker uses Bold, it will definitely be an overlapping word with teeth, and other font effects in PageMaker will Something went wrong.
Solution: Try to avoid the above effects. If the font needs to be bold, the corresponding bold Chinese characters should be selected, such as bold Song type or large bold type. If there is no corresponding bold font, you can use Fill and Stroke in FreeHand, but there is an empirical formula, that is, the added word side cannot exceed 3% of the original font size. If the font itself is bold, this ratio should be smaller.

Three, use the wrong Fill and Stroke in FreeHand (filling the pre-word side)

Consequences: Using Fill and Stroke can make the font bold, and can also make the characters have different color edges. However, improper use will cause slurred characters, or the sides of the characters are too thick, squeezing out the color of the characters themselves.

Solution: The font size cannot exceed 3% of the original font size.

Fourth, there is a gray net when black imprinting

Consequence: Tell the output center that the black version needs to pay attention to whether there is a gray net in the file before imprinting. Because if there is a gray net, the objects under the gray net will pass through. Other imprints specified in the file should also be noted, because the current version of the software can not see which objects have been imprinted.

Solution: Be careful when you do your work and never fall into the trap.

Tip: When defining gray, add 1% yellow!

Five, misuse of EPS tape network

Consequences: 175 lines of output, but the number of lines in some pictures is incorrect.

Solution: When saving images in EPS format, be careful not to choose to bring screen information. At the same time, we must pay attention to other options. In some cases, the use of EPS with the network function can achieve some special requirements, such as line network effect or intentionally using different network cables in the same layout to achieve special effects.

Tip: The image is stored in EPS color separation format, which can greatly improve the output speed.

Six, wrong use of DCS format

Consequences: 1. There is a picture in the black and white print, but no picture on the output

2. Black and white pictures when printing in color

3. Although color pictures are used when printing in color, they are very rough.

Solution: The reason for 1 is that there is only the main file but no color separation file when outputting:

The reason for 2 is that the main file contains only low-resolution grayscale images:

The reason for 3 is that the main file contains low-resolution color images.

Seven, wrong use of JPEG compression format

Consequences: There is an image on the screen, and the image is missing after the output is solved: In PHOTOSHOP, re-store the TIFF or EPS format, return to PAGEMAKER and re-link.

Eight, the big picture is reduced to a small picture and spaces are used in the paragraph header, and spaces are used in the table.

Consequences: After reading the text or table on the screen, it will not be abandoned.

Solution: It is very convenient to zoom the image in the typesetting software, but the cost is multiple or several times the output time, so be sure to set the size and resolution in the image processing software (PHOTOSHOP), and then put it into the typesetting software; and the table Use PAGEMAKER or QuarkXPree,

The software itself has a very good indentation positioning function, can make a very professional and neat table. As for the paragraph header, it should be set in the row format.

Nine, without English font

Consequences: The output font is replaced by the system font, go back and get another pass

Solution: There are now more than 10,000 English fonts used in the computer, so do n’t expect the English words you use in the output center. So call and confirm with the output center, if there is no output center, then you have to bring the font to the output center.

Ten. Misuse of "pattern-pattern"

Consequences: There is a pattern fill in FREEHAND, which can fill a regular pattern within a certain graphic range. This type of pattern is dot matrix. The early LEVEII RIP imagesetter does not support this kind of filling output, and the LEVEII II imagesetter can output. But one thing to note is that you can not set it outside the field color. If you try to set a light color of c10% y10%, although it is displayed on the screen, the output must be 100% dark green for each cy!

Solution: Unless not used

Tip: Print it out with a printer, scan for a binary TIFF, and then color it in FREEHAND.
