Graphics and image format and processing software

1 graphics and image concept

Graphic information, image information, and text information, which are called graphic information, are the transfer objects to the substrate in the printing and copying process, and are basic information elements that constitute a printing layout, a publication page, and the like.

A graphic is a two-dimensional or three-dimensional visual information body with a certain physical feature, which is constructed by hand-drawn by hand or computer system. It is a vector diagram composed of external contour lines. The image is natural or artificially produced. A two-dimensional or three-dimensional visual information composed of a large number of tiny pixels is a bitmap composed of a pixel lattice.

2 graphic file format and processing software

Commonly used graphics processing software in the field of prepress processing include: CorelDraw of Corel, Illustrator of Adobe, Freehand of Macromedia, 3Dmax of 3D animation software, etc. In addition, in the field of computer-aided design and manufacturing, commonly used graphics processing The software also includes: AutoCAD, GHCAD, Pro / E, UG, CATIA, MDT, CAXA electronic version and so on.

These software can draw vector graphics, mathematically define the processing information of page elements, and can independently move, scale, rotate and warp vector graphics and primitives, and can output graphics at different resolutions.

Since the graphics only save the algorithm and related control points, the storage space occupied by the graphics file is generally small, but when the screen is displayed, the display speed is slightly relative to the image due to the calculation process of the scan conversion. Slower, but the output quality is better.

Commonly used graphic file storage formats, including:

(1) CDR format: This format is a graphic file storage format dedicated to CorelDraw software;

(2) AI format: This format is a graphic file storage format dedicated to Illustrator software;

(3) DXF format: It is the graphic file format of AutoCAD software. This format stores graphics in ASCII mode and can be called and edited by CorelDraw, 3Dmax and other software.

(4) EPS format: This format is a general format that can be used for vector graphics, pixel images, and text encoding, that is, recording graphics, images, and text simultaneously in one file.

3 image file format and processing software

The most commonly used image processing software in the prepress field is Adobe Photoshop software, which is widely used in image processing in various fields and almost dominates computer image processing software.

The image is composed of a series of ordered pixels. The storage formats commonly used in computers are: BMP, TIFF, EPS, JPEG, GIF, PSD, PDF and other formats. among them:

(1) BMP format: It is a standard image file format in Windows. It describes bitmaps in a device-independent way. Various commonly used graphics and image software can edit and process image files of this format.

(2) TIFF format: This format is a commonly used bitmap image format. The TIFF bitmap can have any size and resolution. The image for printing and printing output is recommended to be stored in this format.

(3) JPEG format: It is an efficient compression format, which can greatly compress images, maximize network resources and increase transmission speed. Therefore, images used for network transmission are generally stored in this format.

(4) GIF format: This format can be used in various image processing software. It is a compressed file format, so it generally takes up less space and is suitable for network transmission. It is generally used to store animation effect pictures.

(5) PSD format: This format is a standard image file format used in Photoshop software. It can preserve the image information of the image, channel mask information, etc., for subsequent modification and special effects production. Generally, images created and processed in Photoshop are recommended to be stored in this format to maximize the preservation of data information, and then converted to other image file formats for subsequent layout, imposition, and output.

(6) PDF format: Also known as a portable (or portable) file format, it has cross-platform features and includes effective control information for professional plate making and printing production, and can be used as a common file format in the prepress field.
