The first bio-based polyurethane textile coating released

Bayer MaterialScience is launching a range of aqueous bio-based polyurethane (PU) dispersions under the brand name Impranil® Ecomaterials. This material has a renewable content of up to 65%, so this series of products can further reduce carbon dioxide emissions, thereby re-improving the sustainability of waterborne PU materials. Bayer MaterialScience demonstrated this at the European Coatings Fair in Nuremberg, Germany from April 21st to 23rd and at the International Textiles and Nonwovens Exhibition (Techtextil) in Frankfurt, Germany from May 4th to 7th. A research and development result. These products are part of the INSQIN waterborne PU textile coated fabric project.

Mr. Nicholas Smith, General Manager of Bayer MaterialScience Textile Coatings Global Business, said: “Sustainability has become one of the most important considerations for consumers to make purchasing decisions, and the textile industry has placed it at the forefront. Impranil® Ecomaterials can Helping manufacturers, OEM foundries and brands improve their ecological footprint. The first products in this series, developed for the apparel, accessories and footwear industries, will help the industry optimize sustainable development."

Manufacturers will be able to produce synthetic materials and coated fabrics that contain large amounts of renewable ingredients in each layer. Its performance is comparable to high-end traditional products, and its bio-based materials can be used immediately without reconstitution. In addition, it is important that the source of these biological materials does not conflict with the human food chain.

Collaboration is the key to disruptive innovation

Mr. Ni Gule said: “We believe that disruptive innovation will increasingly rely on close collaboration with excellent partners, whether upstream or downstream of the value chain. We are very happy to work with BioAmber on Impranil® renewable raw materials. This technology-leading company can reliably and adequately supply these important raw materials. On the other hand, we will continue to work with well-known companies downstream of the value chain to maximize the potential of innovation in our technology."

Strengthening research and development of new products in the field of custom textiles

In addition to bio-based products, Bayer MaterialScience is launching a new line of Impranil® series PU dispersions, expanding the range of applications for INSQIN technology released last year. At the same time, a full range of services has been launched to meet the textile industry's higher requirements for material function and sustainability.

Impranil® DAA specializes in the development of intermediate coatings for the apparel and footwear industries. This product can be used to produce softer materials and to maintain this property in low temperature environments – this is what the apparel industry dreams of.

The performance requirements of materials for sports shoes are particularly stringent. Impranil® DLE helps to develop upper materials that meet the highest technical specifications in the field, especially in terms of bond strength.

On the other hand, the automotive industry will also benefit from the new Impranil® DLC-T product. With this product, a special automotive interior material can be produced, which not only has the super matt surface sought by the industry, but also has high abrasion resistance, hydrolysis resistance, light resistance and heat resistance.
