The four major problems that occur when printing BOPP film

1. Adhesive edges and film breakage.

BOPP film is known for its low tear resistance, which makes it vulnerable to damage during production and transportation. If the cross-section of the film gets scratched or torn, it can lead to adhesive edges and even complete film breakage. Therefore, special care must be taken to protect the edges throughout the entire process to avoid such issues.

2. Poor print color quality.

During the biaxial stretching process, if the local thickness of the BOPP film isn't properly controlled, it can result in a "lotus edge" effect. This unevenness causes misalignment of the mark line during printing and leads to poor overprint registration, ultimately affecting the overall print quality.

3. Low corona treatment value on the substrate surface.

The surface of BOPP film used for printing or lamination must undergo corona treatment to improve adhesion. The surface tension should be above 38 dyne to ensure strong ink adhesion and good peel strength after laminating. If the corona value doesn’t meet the required standard, the film is unsuitable for use and should be discarded.

4. Poor antistatic performance.

BOPP films tend to accumulate static electricity due to their poor antistatic properties. This static charge can cause discharge when the film comes into contact with the printing plate, leading to problems like "missing dots," "burrs," and "empty edges" in the printed image. These defects can significantly reduce the quality of the final product.

In addition to these common issues, it's also important to consider environmental factors such as humidity and temperature during handling and storage. Proper storage conditions help maintain the integrity and performance of BOPP films. Regular quality checks and proper maintenance of printing equipment are also essential to prevent these problems from occurring.
