Honeycomb paperboard "be popular" home appliance packaging

In the past two years, in the packaging field, honeycomb paperboard has been used as a substitute for EPS in the home appliance packaging industry due to its advantages in material saving, low price, light weight, and high strength in line with environmental protection requirements, as well as complying with the environmental protection requirements of China and importing countries. Polystyrene, and become a popular material for packaging materials.

In recent years, policies to support the development of this emerging packaging material have been frequently introduced in China. In 1999, the "Research on Development Strategies and Planning of China's Green Packaging Industry" compiled by the Department of Comprehensive Utilization and Environmental Protection of the State Economic and Trade Commission, listed the honeycomb paperboard packaging as an extension development plan, and pointed out: "This new kind of honeycomb paperboard will become our country. The ideal packaging for export goods, and its promotion and application will play a positive role in reducing the breakage rate of goods in the circulation process and improving the quality of packaging products.” In August 2001, the “New Generation Wood Organization” organized by China Packaging Corporation. One of the special packaging materials, "honeycomb," was listed in the National Key Technology Innovation Program.

This reporter learned that optimistic about the market prospects and policy environment, companies have started to work very early, but after the industry's "three ups and three downs" "waves", few strong companies remain, such as Kunming's "wind" Dynamics, Guangzhou's "Hollyn Victory", Jiangxi's "Fuxiang", Beijing's "Pivot Point", Dandong's "Longhua", Jiangsu's "Cedar" and "Asian Alliance", Shenzhen's "Yadong", Henan The "Phoenix" and so on. But it is these few companies that have propped up the industry.

In the home appliance packaging field, Guangzhou He Lisheng is a very strong representative enterprise. In interviewing the company, the reporter’s greatest achievement was to recognize the heavyweight figures of an industry—the deputy director of the China Center for Packaging Technology’s Honeycomb Materials Information Center and Dr. Wang Wenming, the president of He Lisheng (China)’s Cellular Products Group. Dr. Wang is a man of the times in this industry.

Wang Wenming, Ph.D. in Electrical and Information Engineering in the United Kingdom; after winning the capital and technical support from Dutch Dutch Lisheng Group in 1995, he founded He Li Sheng (Guangzhou) Cellular Products Co., Ltd. in Guangzhou, introducing the largest production in Asia. Automatic honeycomb paper core production line; in 1998 developed a new honeycomb composite tray that can replace wooden pallets, this product has now been exported to Europe and the United States; assisted a Shenzhen company to introduce China's first automatic honeycomb paperboard production line.

On May 16, 2001, at the first national honeycomb paperboard development strategy seminar, Dr. Wang Wenming’s special speech touched a big customer—the Haier Group. Then, after repeated design, testing, testing, and actual transportation inspection, the Haier Group adopted honeycomb paperboard produced by Wang Wenming’s subsidiaries for home appliance packaging. At present, the company where Wang Wenming is located has won orders for more than 30 million yuan in cellular packaging materials from Haier Group.

When it comes to the development of the honeycomb paperboard industry, Dr. Wang is well-versed.

In the home appliance industry, in 2001, the output of air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and microwave ovens exceeded 15 million units, and a large number of packaging materials such as wooden frames, EPS cushions, and trays were used. The use of honeycomb paperboard instead of wooden packaging and packaging materials that pollute the environment is becoming the trend of the times.

In December 2001, Haier Group decided to use honeycomb paperboard to pack its air conditioners and freezers on a large scale. There is only one variety of cabinets, and the daily amount of honeycomb paperboard can reach more than 20,000 square meters. According to Haier's development plan, the Group's various products will gradually adopt honeycomb cardboard packaging. The annual demand will be approximately 50 million square meters. Moreover, Haier Group's growth will also increase at an annual rate of 80%. The demand will be greater.

At the beginning of 2002, Sichuan Changhong Company listed the honeycomb paperboard project as the packaging improvement project of the year, and it will be used first to package Changhong Group’s rear projection TVs exported to the United States.

In the Guangdong region, Gree Electric Appliances in Zhuhai has taken the lead in packaging air conditioners with honeycomb paperboard. An air-conditioning production line requires about 3,000 sets of honeycomb paperboard cushioning materials every day. After all Gree air conditioners use honeycomb paperboard packaging, the annual amount of honeycomb paperboard is approximately 20 million square meters. . Shunde Midea Group and Kelon Electronics also began experimenting with honeycomb paperboard packaging air conditioning products in 2002. The major home appliance companies such as Kelon Refrigerator, TCL Air Conditioning, Galanz Air-Conditioning, Changhong Air-Conditioning, Panasonic Air-Conditioning, and Hualing Electric are also testing the use of honeycomb paperboard packaging products. Once the actual test is passed, many household electrical appliances will be replaced with honeycomb paperboard packaging. It is expected that the daily demand for honeycomb paperboard will reach 5-10 million square meters per day.

In 2003, Ningbo Oaks will plan to export 300,000 sets of air conditioners. The number of air conditioners to be exported in the next 3-5 years will account for 50% of the total output of the company's air conditioners. The amount of honeycomb paperboard is also considerable.

Other companies, such as air-conditioner refrigerator compressor manufacturers Shunde Meizhi and Guangzhou Mitsubishi Electric, Shunde Wanjiale for home appliances, Galanz for microwave ovens, Shenzhen Zhongkang Glass-shell Factory for production of glass tubes, and Foshan Color CRT Co., Ltd. Potential large users of cardboard. If the large enterprises mentioned above can switch to honeycomb paperboard packaging, the annual consumption of honeycomb paperboard will be over 100 million square meters. It is estimated that the entire annual demand in the entire Guangdong market will be around 5-10 billion square meters, and the potential market demand for honeycomb paperboard will increase. It is still difficult to accurately estimate the quantity.

Dr. Wang added that since 1998, restrictions imposed by the United States and the European Union on China's wooden packaging materials and the European Union’s requirements for the recycling rate of imported product packaging materials in 2000 (requiring a regeneration rate of more than 60%) have all reflected that the world market is new to the market. The urgent need and expectation of energy saving and environmental protection materials have undoubtedly created a good market opportunity and a huge space for development for the application of honeycomb packaging materials.

When analyzing the status quo of the development of honeycomb packaging materials in Europe and the United States, Wang Wenming said that the difficulties faced by foreign countries are precisely where China can exert its relative competitive advantage. The high price of honeycomb paperboard and the small market are complementary problems. With a large market capacity in China, the price of honeycomb paperboard can be reduced. For example, Haier, a well-known household appliance company in China, has an annual packaging cost of RMB 1-2 billion, and the potential for honeycomb paperboard usage is as high as 50 million square meters. Such a huge market can completely lower the price of honeycomb paperboard. The problem of molding is difficult. Due to the low labor cost in our country and the work that cannot be completed abroad, our country can complete it at a very low price. For example, full-paper honeycomb trays developed in China need to be protected by layers such as paper corners. Many places need to be manually operated. It is inconceivable in foreign countries. Even if it is developed, the price is not competitive, but the domestically developed products are not only superior in performance. , And the price is cheap, welcomed by many exporters and foreign buyers.

Another example is the air conditioning cabinet packaging, the original packaging program is to use the built-in EPS foam plastic and wooden frame, coat corrugated boxes, due to Europe and the United States and other countries to China's wood packaging restrictions, manufacturers want to cancel the wooden frame. After the abolition of the wooden frame, the packaging solution with a completely built-in EPS cushion resulted in a high product rework rate. The use of honeycomb cardboard packaging program, not only can fully meet the air conditioning packaging requirements, and packaging costs than the original reduction of at least 20% or more, only this change, you can save some companies tens of millions of packaging costs.

Obviously, due to the huge domestic market and low labor costs, honeycomb paperboard packaging materials that are difficult to develop rapidly in foreign countries are right at the moment in China, and the prospects are bright.

Dr. Wang, who tasted sweetness, was very optimistic about the industry and even used the word “unstoppable” to image. In fact, many experts have shared the same feelings with Dr. Wang. Now that the honeycomb paperboard on the home appliance packaging is only the beginning, once the company has formed a scale, the cost of the product will drop, and the market will be even bigger.
