New foaming agent will be available

Japan's Central Class has successfully developed a new formulation technology for obtaining low-pressure HFC245fa products. HFC245fa is a next-generation polyurethane foaming agent that achieves gasification pressure comparable to CFC11 by compounding in specific solvents. Due to overcoming the problem of high pressure, it is promising to promote the large-scale adoption of HFC245fa in industrialization.
For the purpose of protecting the ozone layer, HCFC141b, the current mainstream product of polyurethane foaming agents, will be removed from use. HFC245fa is the next-generation foaming agent for hard polyurethanes that fully meets environmental requirements. In Japan, regulations restricting the use of HCFC 141b will come into effect in late 2003, and the company intends to complete the HFC245fa production plant in October 2003. According to the opinions of the Central Glass Company's chemical subsidiary, the new installation is about 5,000 tons/year and the final decision will be made soon. It is reported that the project will invest approximately 3 billion to 3.5 billion yen, which will be the first device of Japan's industrial production of HFC245fa. The annual consumption of HCFC141b in Japan totals about 12,000 tons, and it is estimated that about 10,000 tons will be replaced by HFC245fa.
