A new type of polyester fiber was developed by EASTMAN Chemical Co., USA. The polymer used was cyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate (PCT). The series of fibers is called EASTMAN and it has two short fibers and two filaments. This is a form that can be used to produce spunbonded and meltblown nonwovens. The fiber also has a very soft feel and very good resilience after compression, making it particularly suitable for making pillows and cushions. In addition, it has good hydrolytic stability and can be used for reusable mattresses and laundry bags. EASTMAN fiber has a low specific gravity and is suitable for the production of blankets, carpets and saddle blankets. The pile fabrics produced by it have a low shrinkage rate, good thermal stability, are easy to dye and are not easy to stick together, and the ironing temperature of the fabric can reach 205°C. (mp 290°C). Industrial uses of fibers include high temperature resistant filter materials and insulating materials, as well as structural composites.
