Common faults in gravure printing

Failure in gravure printing is mainly caused by printing plates, inks, substrates, squeegees, and the like.

(A) Ink unevenness

There is a periodical change of ink on the printed matter. Exclusion methods include: correcting the roundness of the plate cylinder, adjusting the squeegee angle, pressure, or replacing a new squeegee.

(b) Imprinting and fluffing

The image of the printed matter is layered and leveled, and the burr phenomenon appears on the edge of the graphic. Exclusion methods include removing static electricity from the substrate surface, adding polar solvents to the ink, appropriately increasing the printing pressure, and adjusting the position of the doctor blade.

(III) Blocked version

The phenomenon that the ink dries in the printing plate's cell, or the plate's cell is stuffed with paper and paper powder, is called blocking plate. Exclusion methods include: increase the content of the solvent in the ink, reduce the drying speed of the ink, and use high-surface-strength paper printing.

(d) Ink spilling The phenomenon of spotting in the printed part of the print. Excluded methods are: Add hard varnish, increase the viscosity of the ink. Adjust the angle of the squeegee to increase the printing speed, and replace the deep-mesh point printing plate with a shallow mesh printing plate.

(five) Scratches

The print has traces of a squeegee. Excluded methods are: Printing with clean ink mixed with no foreign matter. Adjust the ink viscosity, dryness, and adhesion. Use a good squeegee to adjust the angle between the squeegee and the plate.

(VI) Pigment precipitation

The phenomenon of lightness on prints has become lighter. Excluded methods are: use of ink with good dispersion and stable performance. Add anti-agglomeration, anti-precipitation additives to the ink. Roll well and mix the ink in the ink tank.

(seven) dirty

There is an ink stain on the printed matter. Excluded methods are: Select ink printing with fast evaporation speed, increase drying temperature or appropriately reduce printing speed.

(8) Ink shedding

The ink printed on the plastic film is poor in adhesiveness and rubs off by hand or mechanical force. Excluded methods are: to prevent the plastic film from getting wet, choose printing ink with good affinity with the plastic film, and re-surface the plastic film to increase the surface tension.
