Decryption: Mysterious "phase change material" is the key
Zheng Guanghong told reporters that the reason why this kind of clothes can adjust the temperature is because the clothes are made of a special phase change material. The phase change material, called Outlast, was originally developed by a US company and used by NASA to make spacesuits. “It is a comfortable temperature-regulating material that does not become too cold in extremely cold weather, and does not overheat in high-temperature environments, keeping the temperature of the skin surface at a comfortable temperature.â€
In Outlast material, there are 2~30 micron microcapsules, which are coated with a material called paraffin microencapsulation. This paraffin microencapsulation can change from solid to liquid or from liquid to solid when the temperature changes, and absorb heat, heat or exotherm in these changes, so as to reach the comfortable skin surface temperature of the human body (about 32~33) °C). "The principle of heat absorption and exothermic of this material is the same as the principle of water solidification exotherm and liquefaction endotherm. In the process of transforming physical properties, the phase change material absorbs or releases a large amount of heat, thereby achieving the effect of adjusting temperature."
Zheng Guanghong said that the fabric made of Outlast material has been tested by the European Union's professional institutions for dynamic mode testing and artificial climate chamber testing, and the temperature regulation can reach 3~5 °C.
